$350,000 raised for the Laval Cancer Program

The 18th edition of the 300 km Bike Challenge for LIFE, filled with emotion, came to an end on the weekend of September 6-7. This flagship event of the Cité de la Santé Foundation, presented by Desjardins and Guimond Construction, in collaboration with Subaru de Laval, raised a net total of $350,000.

More than 160 determined cyclists set off from the Laval Integrated Cancer Center (CICL) and made the round trip between Laval and Trois-Rivières, covering a total of 325 km. Jeanne-Évelyne Turgeon, CEO of the CISSS de Laval, was among them, pedaling resolutely for the Laval cancer program. Other veterans of the rally were also there, such as microbiologist-infectiologist Dr. Olivier Haeck, who has been involved since the beginning of this wonderful adventure, as well as former patients of the Centre de Cancérologie de Laval.

Despite Saturday's rain and Sunday's winds, the cyclists rose to the challenge with flying colors, and a triumphant procession crossed the hospital entrance. Upon their arrival on Sunday, nearly 1,000 people were waiting for them, holding signs to cheer them on, in front of the Laval Integrated Cancer Center at the Cité-de-la-Santé Hospital. The Mayor of Laval, Stéphane Boyer, accompanied by his political advisor Jibril Akaaboune Le François, was there to welcome the cyclists and express their admiration for their valuable commitment. Pierre Brabant, councilor for Vimont, was also on hand to thank the cyclists. Emotions ran high, as several participants were close to people with cancer or had themselves gone through this ordeal.

"I am always amazed by the determination and solidarity that emanate from the 300 km for LIFE! This rally for life for the Foundation fills our hearts with pride and emotion every year. Thank you to each of the participants, partners, donors, and volunteers who made this success possible. Congratulations to all!" said André Malacket, Executive Director of the Cité de la Santé Foundation.

The funds raised will help finance the purchase of cutting-edge medical equipment, offer increasingly innovative services to patients treated at the Laval Integrated Cancer Center, and contribute to clinical research projects conducted at the CISSS de Laval that save lives every year.

We would like to extend our warmest thanks to the official presenters of the 18th edition, Guimond Construction, and Desjardins, in collaboration with Subaru de Laval, as well as all donors, participants, and our loyal partners.

THANK YOU, and see you next year!
