The hardest thing to accept when you are a doctor is admitting that you cannot cure your patients. This is the case with diabetes, a chronic disease which can unfortunately progress insidiously towards major complications. Among these, wounds and infections associated with the diabetic foot are very common and often recurrent for many of our patients.
It is to meet this need that we initiated, with the support of the Cité de la Santé Foundation, the project to create a complex wound care clinic in Laval. It is important to know that complex wounds represent much more than an economic burden for our health system. They cause indescribable suffering and affect the quality of life of those affected. Physical pain, anxiety related to the risk of limb amputation and the inability to lead a normal life are all obstacles that these patients face on a daily basis.
The clinic we envision is a specialty care center dedicated to the assessment, treatment, and multidisciplinary care of individuals with complex wounds. Our main objectives are to accelerate the healing process, improve the fluidity of the patient journey, reduce hospitalizations and ultimately, improve the quality of life of our patients. Rapid and effective medical treatment can drastically change the trajectory of our patients and prevent them from long-term after-effects.
Your donation will help structure the service offering, equip our clinic with the most advanced technologies, develop medical support for front-line teams and set up an internship and professional training location. You will play a vital role in creating an environment conducive to healing, where every patient is treated with respect, dignity and empathy.
Your generous contribution brings us closer to our shared goal of improving the lives of people with complex wounds. Together we can make a real difference in our community.
