Projet CLÉ

The Centre de protection de l’enfance et de la jeunesse provides services to young people between the ages of 0 and 18. These young people have experienced significant difficulties within their family or living environment. They may be victims of neglect, physical, psychological or sexual abuse, suffer from abandonment, isolation or addiction, and may present serious behavioural, adjustment and autonomy problems.

Whether they have been in care for a short time or for a long time, young people who have been entrusted to the care of the Direction de la protection de la jeunesse (DPJ) lose government support and supervision when they reach the age of 18. Finding themselves alone, with few resources and without accompaniment, very few of them manage to complete a post-secondary education program. Faced with multiple responsibilities, both financial and social, related to their departure for independent living at the beginning of their 18th year, the prospect of continuing their studies becomes unrealistic and, above all, unattainable.

Challenged by this sad reality, the Fondation du Centre jeunesse de la Montérégie took the initiative in 2015 to develop an innovative program adapted to the reality of these young people: Le Projet clé. The CISSS de Laval decided to implement this project in Laval.

The presented by Desjardins in collaboration with the City of Laval, offers concrete solutions to young people who wish to pursue their studies: financial resources for study and housing, guidance and support.

  • A scholarship of $5,000 per year, paid monthly ($416/month), until graduation. This amount was calculated to avoid cuts to government loans and bursaries received by the participant.
  • A graduation present to repay government loans upon graduation. An amount of $3,000 is thus provided annually for each candidate.
The Projet CLÉ is therefore equivalent to an annual amount of $8,000 per young person.
  • A computer, if necessary, which will be lent to him for the duration of his studies.
  • Free new household appliances.
  • The support of a mentor, chosen according to the candidate’s personal and academic interests.

The Projet Clé in Laval from 2018 to 2020: realistic objectives

  • 28 participants and 28 mentors
  • A first cohort of six graduates in 2020

Why donate?

The Projet CLÉ helps young people:

  • To learn to take responsibility and become seriously involved in an academic project
  • To learn how to organize between studies, part-time work and independent living
  • To learn how to socialize and integrate into society
  • To avoid marginalisation, isolation, exclusion and poverty
  • To increase their self-esteem and the taste for success
  • To build relationships, develop relationship skills with adult mentors and build a community outside of social services

The Projet CLÉ in Laval is made possible by the combined strengths of two foundations

The Cité de la Santé Foundation and the Fondation du Centre jeunesse de Laval are joining forces to bring Projet CLÉ to life in Laval. Proud of this union, they receive significant support from the Fondation du Centre jeunesse de la Montérégie, as well as from the CISSS of Montérégie East to ensure a harmonious integration in our region. The Projet CLÉ is a social project dedicated to establishing itself in all regions of Québec.
